China's new family policy
SUMMARY
In 1980, China established its "one child policy". This meant that every family could only have one child or else the government would make life really difficult for the family with increased taxes and labor. This presented the problem of an over abundance of males in China. Because of its patriarch society, it favors male children over females. Due to the one child policy, sex related abortions rose, therefore not enough females were born for all the males to marry and reproduce with. The new policy states that if one or both of the parents are an only child, then they are allowed to have two children. However, researchers still calculate an imbalance in China's gender ratio, as they foresee by the year 2050, 10% of working-age men will be without females to marry. Also, these men feed into the government's fears because they partake in sex trafficking and bride buying. It is predicted that in the year 2030, China will pass Japan as the world;s most aged population with 29 million working aged men without women.

REFLECTION
I never knew the gender situation was so bad in China. I always knew they favored males over females, but I never knew that there were not enough women to go around. Overpopulation is a serious problem which is the main reason China instituted their policy on one child per family, which is understandable. If the population exceeds the abundance of resources, it will collapse, causing numerous deaths due to starvation and poverty. However, there is a better way to prevent that from happening. I strongly suggest that China needs to get rid of their current patriarch society so that the gender ratio can even out and single men will not get involved with sex trafficking. Hopefully they never run out of females then, or else they're in big trouble.
