Tuberculosis Now Rivals AIDS As Leading Cause of Death, Says WHORecently, the number of TB cases almost surpassed those of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Mario Raviglione states that as the availability of HIV/AIDS treatment increased, so did the number of TB cases. Countries like India and China are more susceptible to TB but have more money to deal with domestic treatment/prevention, whereas Africa is hit the hardest by HIV/AIDS and cannot finance enough treatment. Other doctors say there is still more work and research to be done. As of now, the funding is still short by $1.4 million to be involved in TB interventions.

I believe doctors and other organizations should do whatever it takes to provide aid to those who do not have sufficient resources to handle the disease themselves. HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis are serious, life-threatening diseases that no one should have to contract. I never would have guessed that more people would contract TB when more treatment for HIV/AIDS becomes more accessible. Education is always an important way to prevent the spread of diseases, and should be on the top priorities list of any organization providing aid to infected regions so that it cannot continue to be an issue.
