- Solar panel windows on every building (Holly Uber) - Front yard farming of edible crops/native species (Blaine M. Osborne) - Improvement/implementation of sensor technology to monitor/reduce emissions (Parag Khanna) - Make homes and appliances efficient (Steven Chu) - Stop burning fossils (Bruce Sterling) - Car-free zones (William Rees)
Summary
The purpose of this article was to gather ideas together that would make cities more sustainable. Many people from around the world put in their proposals for a more sustainable city; some being simple, while others are very elaborate. They range from simply cutting back on fossil fuel burning to implementing and improving sensor technology to monitor GHG emissions. All of which may not be plausible now or in the near future, but they provide a new outlook and hope for us to help Earth recover.
Reflection
This article introduced me to ways to make a sustainable city that I would have never thought of. While some of them seem far fetched, others are very plausible. I like the idea of having buildings with solar panel windows the most. That way all the energy absorbed by the tons of buildings in the city can be dispersed in an eco-friendly way. I look forward to learning more about strategies for sustainability.
